Hi! I’m Hollie – a registered Chartered Physiotherapist with a special interest in working with clients who have pre-existing diagnoses of chronic pain conditions, such as hypermobile Ehlers Danlos (hEDS), fibromyalgia, chronic low back pain and osteoarthritis.
I have been teaching movement-based practises for the past 15 years, beginning with Shaw Method Swimming and continuing to develop my portfolio of skills with Physiotherapy, Aquatic Therapy, Clinical Pilates and Therapeutic Yoga.
After qualifying as Physiotherapist, I worked with NHS Musculoskeletal and Persistent Pain Teams before focusing on offering support to people who require longer-term and more intensive support than the NHS currently has the capacity to provide.
Now, I typically work with people on a weekly or fortnightly basis to develop a movement and exercise practise which is focused on their specific goals and accommodates their needs. This may include anything from movement exploration, injury rehabiliation, weights, pilates or yoga to name but a few options. Some people use this to develop the skills and knowledge to manage their progress independently, whilst others continue to work with me to coordinate their progress over years.
I have managed chronic pain and fatigue since my teens and was eventually diagnosed with hEDS and endometriosis. In my 20s, I was told many times that exercise was important, but pain and fatigue made it a very anxiety-inducing experience which often made my symptoms worse. Fortunately, I was introduced to Pilates by a talented and understanding teacher, and began to gradually develop awareness and confidence in movement. Therapeutic movement became way of life and a special interest, leading me to clinical work as a Physiotherapist.
I have spent my career exploring and training to teach mindful movement approaches in Clinical Pilates, Therapeutic Yoga and Shaw Method swimming. As I became better equipped to manage my widespread pain and fatigue, I have become a keen weightlifter, a student of Iyengar yoga and enjoy running, cycling and static rowing, as my energy and pain allow. I also practise meditation, restorative yoga and mindfulness.
I am low-key, calm and encouraging and provide ample feedback. I would like my clients to feel confident, comfortable and free to express themselves.
If you are looking for spin-class energy – we all have different preferences – that isn’t my approach. I encourage clients to be present and mindful in their movement, to explore how it feels physically and emotionally. Many of my clients have past trauma or negative experiences relating to movement and the sensations around exertion which require a gentle approach.
All movements are experiments – some work for some people, and not for others! With your feedback we are constantly adjusting – I am a master at adapting a movement so you can feel confident, strong and stable.
